The Music Shoppe

Specializing in Service to Music Education

The Music Shoppe, Inc. was founded in 1961 by Tom Wood when he purchased Noonan Music Co. from his former college instructor, John Noonan. Tom’s son, Randy Wood, came into the business after graduating from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1973. Anticipating his father’s retirement, Randy took on another partner, Terry Houchin, in 1980. This partnership continues as the present ownership of the business. It has since grown to three locations, including Normal, Champaign in 1989, and Springfield in 2016.

For over 50 years, The Music Shoppe has specialized in service to music education. We have seven educational representatives servicing over 250 schools across Illinois. They make weekly stops at all Music Shoppe serviced schools to meet the needs of the directors.  Our repair department for band and orchestra instruments is among the best in the state. With eight members on the repair team, our repair department is skilled, fast, and affordable.

The Music Shoppe takes pride in providing a comfortable store environment for beginners to professionals.  We offer a wide selection of band and orchestra instruments, which are always available to demo. We represent most major B&O franchises such as Bach, Conn-Selmer, YamahaEastman, Pearl and Jupiter to name a few.  In addition to beginner band & orchestra rentals, many customers are delighted to find that Step-Up instruments are also available as a rent-to-own.

Additionally, The Music Shoppe offers guitars, drums, pianos, sheet music and more. All three locations have dedicated lesson studios, where musicians of any age and level can get instruction from highly qualified instructors on a wide variety of instruments.

If you’re not able to make it into the store, our website features a comprehensive online store. Every purchase is eligible for free delivery to schools.
