Beckah Gerber, a lyric soprano, has studied and performed classical music for 13 years. She holds a Bachelor’s of Music in vocal performance from Millikin University, as well as a Master’s of Arts in vocal performance from Eastern Illinois University. Primarily an opera singer, she has performed a variety of roles, including Mrs. Peachum (The 3-Penny Opera,) Josephine (HMS Pinafore), Juno (Orfée aux enfers), The Queen of the Night (Die Zauberflӧte), and Dorinda (Orlando), and has studied several roles, including Angelica (Suor Angelica) and Mimì (La Bohème). She has also performed regularly with community and university choirs, whose styles range from classical to modern, including sacred music.
Though a student of opera herself, Beckah teaches classical and modern voice, founded in her belief that all vocal music starts at the same place: healthy and fun singing. Her pedagogy focuses on proper technique, communication, and some music theory, but her primary objective with any lesson is to make sure the student is enjoying what they do. She teaches beginning to intermediate level students of almost any age.
