Dustin Norder
Guitar, Mandolin & Ukulele Instructor | Champaign, IL
Dustin Norder began his musical adventure in 1990's playing in a garage band (not the videogame) as a youth. His formal training began in 2002 while earning his graphic design in Tempe, Arizona. During that time he studied guitar under Dr. Don Walbot. After completing his degree in Tempe he studied music theory and ear training along with other performance classes in Champaign Urbana. Dustin has performed regionally and in the Champaign area for the past two decades with The Corn Desert Ramblers, Hot Iron String Band and Neon Moonlighters, among many others.
"My main goals in teaching lessons is to make sure my students are enjoying the lessons and making progress. Not one student is the same and my approach is not the same student to student. I also like to include basic music theory to help build musicianship. A huge part of the lessons is meeting the students where they are and helping reach their goals! I love to know songs and styles of music the students are interested in learning".
His styles range from bluegrass, rock, gypsy jazz and swing to country, folk and blues. “Since I began playing music, I have always shared and learned from other musicians. Teaching is a part of music and that is why I love it.” Teaching formally for fifteen years years now and teaching out of the Music Shoppe lesson studio since 2012, Dustin is excited to take on beginner to advanced students of all ages on mandolin, guitar and ukulele.
Jakob Lillegaard
Electric & Double Bass Instructor | Champaign, IL
Bassist Jakob Lillegaard has been absolutely in love with playing electric bass for 25 years. In high school he added Double Bass to his repertoire, playing both jazz and classical. Playing in a variety of enjoyable bands has always been a fixture in his life. Jakob has always been diversely interested, which has lead him to play all major genres and loves them equally. Recently his interest has grown to include learning how to play the cello, in order to play Irish and American fiddle tunes.
Jakob has been teaching electric bass for 6 years which has always been inspired by his love of teaching. He enjoys teaching as much as performing, and especially loves to find out what drives others to play music, nurture that motive through goal oriented practice, and making playing as fun as possible. Both reading and playing by ear are encouraged, as well as a healthy dose of improvisation.

Jacob Johnston
Ukulele & Guitar Instructor | Champaign, IL
Jacob Johnston has been playing guitar for eight years and ukulele for the last three. He is currently studying music education at Parkland College and aspires to become a music therapist within the next five to eight years. Jacob got his start by offering group lessons aimed towards older adults and looks forward to bringing that experience to adults and children alike through The Music Shoppe. “Everybody ought to play the ukulele. It’s fun, rewarding, and surprisingly easy to learn compared to most fretted, stringed instruments.”
Jacob enjoys playing oldies the most but also likes teaching blues, jazz, rock, and pop. He also likes learning songs from popular TV shows, cartoons, and anything Hawaiian!
