String Sizing Charts

Here's a quick and easy guide for determining which size of string instrument to begin with. These numbers are not exact, so if your teacher has made another recommendation, please listen to them!

Violin Sizing

 Arm Length  15" - 16" 16" - 18" 18" - 20" 20" - 22" 22" - 23" 23"+

To determine arm length, extend left arm away from body with palm facing up. Using a tape measure, measure from base of neck to center of palm. If your student is between sizes, we recommend choosing the smaller size. 

 

Viola Sizing

Where's the 4/4 size? 4/4 Basses are very rare- most players only make the upgrade if they pursuing music in college.
