The Music Shoppe is looking for highly motivated individuals to help the business grow. Started in 1961, The Music Shoppe served the needs of Bloomington-Normal's music community. Today we have three locations in Normal, Champaign, and Springfield, and our community stretches from I-80 south to Effingham.

The heart of our business is band & orchestra; The Music Shoppe works with over 400 schools across Illinois. We also carry guitars, drums, sound equipment, pianos, print music, and more. Additionally, we have the area's largest repair department and lesson studios. We truly are a one-stop shoppe for any musician.

Retail Sales Associate

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and further the Music Shoppe ideals and company image
  • Provide a premium customer service experience for every customer encounter
  • Develop customer relationships and loyalty through knowledgeable sales presentations
  • Maintain product knowledge through online and in-store training sessions
  • Guide families through our instrument rental programs, from explaining the features to filling out the paperwork.
  • Opening and closing store, counting down registers and maintaining a clean showroom
  • Maintain product displays by restocking, cleaning, organizing, and performing routine upkeep on instruments.
  • Assist ESR’s in orders and fulfillment
  • Respond to customer inquiries via phone, text, and email in a timely manner.
  • Occasionally lift & move products and packages weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Required: Minimum of 2 years formal education in instrumental music or performance.
  • Required: Basic computer skills, including email and word processing.
  • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years experience in sales or customer service.
  • Preferred: Degree in music or equivalent professional experience.
  • Preferred: Proficiency with AIM Point of Sale, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Podium.

Qualities in a Successful Candidate:

  • A broad understanding of music and musical instruments.
  • The ability to work flexibly as part of a team or independently.
  • Well organized and a self-starter.
  • A sincere desire to help customers and comfortably interact with them.
  • The ability to communicate accurately and listen effectively.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly on telephone
  • Must be able to respond to texts and emails in a tone commensurate with the company’s premium service standards

Hours:

  • Saturday – 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • (4) Days during the week, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
  • One weekday off – TBD

Range of Compensation:

  • $38,000 to $48,000 annually

Order Fulfillment Associate

Location: Normal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Picking, packing, and shipping customer orders placed on the Music Shoppe website
  • Communicating with online customers (providing tracking information and addressing any concerns or issues)
  • Handling any other shipping needs for the Music Shoppe
  • Running the Reverb.com store page for the Music Shoppe. This includes: Communicating/negotiating prices with customers, picking, packing, and shipping customer orders, posting new product pages on Reverb, & periodically updating pricing
  • Assistance with posting new product pages on the Music Shoppe website
  • Assistance with cycle counts and physical inventory counts
  • Running basic inventory reports and identifying aged inventory
  • Helping unload & organize large freight deliveries
  • Other responsibilities as needs arise

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Required: Minimum of 2 years formal education in instrumental music or performance.
  • Required: Basic computer skills, including email and word processing.
  • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years experience in sales or customer service.
  • Preferred: Degree in music or equivalent professional experience.
  • Preferred: Proficiency with any or all of the following software: AIM Point of Sale, Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and Podium.

 Orchestral String Luthier

The Music Shoppe, a NAMM Top 100 dealer and long-standing member of NASMD, is seeking an experienced orchestral string luthier for the Normal, Illinois location. Serving downstate Illinois since 1961, The Music Shoppe has a history of excellent repair service and support for orchestral string musicians.

Lesson Studio Teachers

We are currently searching for teachers for the following instruments in our Champaign lesson studios:

  • Low Brass (Trombone & Euphonium)
  • Guitar
  • Flute

Studio teachers are required to pass a background check and maintain a weekly student schedule with a high degree of professionality. Teachers are hired as independent contractors, and as a result have the freedom to design their own lesson program, set their own rates, and maintain their own schedule.
