The Music Shoppe is looking for highly motivated individuals to help the business grow. Started in 1961, The Music Shoppe served the needs of Bloomington-Normal's music community. Today we have three locations in Normal, Champaign, and Springfield, and our community stretches from I-80 south to Effingham.

The heart of our business is band & orchestra; The Music Shoppe works with over 400 schools across Illinois. We also carry guitars, drums, sound equipment, pianos, print music, and more. Additionally, we have the area's largest repair department and lesson studios. We truly are a one-stop shoppe for any musician.

The Music Shoppe has become the area's first choice for all-things-music due to our exceptional staff. As we look to expand upon the quality of our service, we are seeking talented, self-motivated individuals.

Customer Service Associate

Full-Time | Normal, IL

Responsibilities:

  • Listen to the needs of the customer and make recommendations based on your expertise
  • Guide families through our instrument rental programs, from explaining the features to filling out the paperwork
  • Evaluate new merchandise
  • Maintain product displays by restocking, dusting, and reorganizing; polishing, tuning, and oiling instruments

Qualifications:

  • Degree in music or long-term instrumental music experience. Background in orchestral strings preferred!
  • At least one year experience in sales/customer service
  • Basic computer skills. We will train you on our industry-specific software, but familiarity with Gmail, Word, and Excel is required.

    Accounting Specialist

    Full-Time | Normal, IL

    Responsibilities:

    • Data compilation
    • Account reconciliation
    • Payroll assistance
    • Month-end calculations
    • Cross-training with other office positions

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum 1 year experience in accounting
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred
    • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software
    • Previous experience in payroll and/or accounts payable preferred
    • Must have knowledge of standard accounting procedures

    Bass Teacher

    Independent Contractor | Normal, IL

    Responsibilities:

    • As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for setting and maintaining your schedule.
    • Maintain a clean and professional workspace and appearance.
    • Design individualized lesson plans for students

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in music or equivalent professional experience with focus on bass 
    • Previous experience teaching private lessons at a beginner & intermediate level
    • Must be able to pass a background check

    Orchestral String Luthier

    Full-Time | Normal, IL

    The Music Shoppe, a NAMM Top 100 dealer and long-standing member of NASMD, is seeking an experienced orchestral string luthier for the Normal, Illinois location.  Serving downstate Illinois since 1961, The Music Shoppe has a history of excellent repair service and support for orchestral string musicians.

    The home of Illinois State University and Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington-Normal is a vibrant source of repair business with 2 outstanding Schools of Music, numerous professional players and teachers, and orchestral programs in all public and some private schools. The community is diverse and arts supportive;  large enough to offer many amenities, and only 2 hours from Chicago or St. Louis for broader offerings in music and the arts.
