Today we have three locations in Normal, Champaign, and Springfield, and our community stretches from I-80 south to Effingham.

The heart of our business is band & orchestra; The Music Shoppe works with over 400 schools across Illinois. We also carry guitars, drums, sound equipment, pianos, print music, and more. Additionally, we have the area's largest repair department and lesson studios. We truly are a one-stop shoppe for any musician.

Accounting Specialist

Full-Time | Normal, IL

Responsibilities:

  • Data compilation
  • Account reconciliation
  • Payroll assistance
  • Month-end calculations
  • Cross-training with other office positions

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in accounting
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Previous experience in payroll and/or accounts payable preferred
  • Must have knowledge of standard accounting procedures

Administrative Assistant

Full-Time | Normal, IL

Responsibilities:

  • Communication with customers regarding their accounts and finding empathetic solutions to meet the needs of the customer and the company.
  • Maintain organization, computer records, inventory, and custom calculation of contracts.
  • Answering, responding to, or directing customer phone calls with the goal of providing outstanding service.

Qualifications:

  • Music or business degree preferred.
  • At least 1 year of customer service or administrative experience.
  • Excellent computer skills. We use Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and POS software on a daily basis.

  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and focus in a “lively” environment- we’re musicians, after all!
  • Confidence with phones, email, and learning new software.

Responsibilities:

  • As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for setting and maintaining your schedule.
  • Maintain a clean and professional workspace and appearance.
  • Design individualized lesson plans for students

Qualifications:

  • Degree in music or equivalent professional experience with focus on bass

The Music Shoppe, a NAMM top 100 dealer and long standing member of NASMD, is seeking an experienced woodwind technician for their Champaign-Urbana location.  Serving central Illinois since 1961, The Music Shoppe has a history of excellent repair service, and is proud to have had some of the industry's best known technicians work on our benches.

Responsibilities:

  • Listen to the needs of the customer and make recommendations based on your expertise
  • Guide families through our instrument rental programs, from explaining the features to filling out the paperwork
  • Evaluate new merchandise
  • Maintain product displays by restocking, dusting, and reorganizing; polishing, tuning, and oiling instruments

Qualifications:

  • Degree in music or equivalent professional experience with focus on brass instruments
  • At least one year experience in sales/customer service
  • Competency with basic computer skills. We will train you on our industry-specific software, but familiarity with Gmail, Word, and Excel is required.

Qualities we look for:

  • Detailed knowledge of brass instruments. Additional knowledge of woodwinds a big plus!
  • Good listening skills and sincere desire to help people
  • Ability to communicate accurately and effectively
  • Demonstrate eagerness to learn
